This week marks the 16th annual U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ International Education Week! The week is dedicated to celebrating education around the world, along with the benefits of global interaction and cultural exchange. Universities around the world are celebrating the exchange of knowledge and ideas that is so important in becoming an engaged global citizen.
This year’s theme is “International Education: Advancing Access for All.” It is vital that education is made accessible to people all over the world, as it is so important in promoting individual and community development. Through study abroad and cultural exchange, individuals are able to maximize their potential and expand their horizons, opening up a whole new world of possibilities! Hear from beneficiaries of international exchange programs and how studying abroad impacted their lives in the video below!
Greenheart is passionate about cultural exchange, and encourages individuals to participate in both inbound and outbound programs. Click on the photo below for more information on international students around the world!
At Loyola University Chicago, international students will be participating in a number of events throughout the week. The English as a Second Language (ESL) program will be coordinating our very first “International Village” event, where students volunteer as cultural representatives of their home countries and teach their peers about various aspects of their own cultures. Check out this database to learn more about events happening in your area!
What makes your home country unique? Earn volunteer hours by giving a presentation on your home country like CCI Greenheart exchange student, Savita Nooreen. Savita is a participant from Pakistan and highlights her favorite parts of International Education week in her blog. Check it out, and consider sharing with your peers what sets your community apart!
