Camp Greenheart: REUNITED and it feels so good

Twenty Camp Greenheart 2016 adventurers came together for an October reunion filled with games, crafts, reflection activities and volunteering. Camp Greenheart provides youth with the opportunity to explore nature, experience adventure, and expand worldviews through fully funded scholarships. Take a look below to see some smiling camper faces and read a bit about the day! “The moment we picked up the campers, there was a buzz of excitement and a race to the school bus. The campers’ energy and positivity was contagious and both campers and facilitators were overjoyed to be reunited. This enthusiasm to make friends, learn about new things, and take on challenges has made Camp Greenheart such a success year after year. Even though the reunion was only a half a day long, the campers easily swung right back into the swing of all things camp. We learned about worms, composting, goal setting, and being thankful all while having an incredible time catching up with one another. It’s only November, but everyone was already starting to plan and become energized for Camp Greenheart Summer 2017!” – Elyse Voyen, Greenheart International

A new counselor, Chase, had the following reflection to share. “Even though I wasn’t a counselor at Camp Greenheart this past summer, I felt immediately welcomed at the reunion. One of the campers even handed me a penned note on construction paper that read, ‘Hi person that is new.’

I loved interacting with the kids, and thoroughly enjoyed seeing them mingle with each other. The bond this group has was evident in everything we did. Perhaps the best part of the whole time together was getting to give back to the community at Chicago Lights Urban Farm. Everyone seemed eager to get their hands dirty, and we sure had fun while doing it.

I look forward to getting more involved with Camp Greenheart in the future. It will be neat to see some familiar faces next summer!”– Chase Chrisholm, Greenheart Travel
