Greenheart Global Leaders Conference: Reawakening the dreamer

Every contribution to Greenheart provides the opportunities that help our global leaders discover their unique purpose. Li Huixin is a Work & Travel participant that lost sight of her career ambitions under the weight and challenges of adulthood in China. After she was selected to attend the Greenheart Global Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. on a full scholarship, she rediscovered the potential for leadership that was within her. Here is her letter of thanks to the incredible individuals that made her reawakening possible..

Dear Donor,

I am Winnie, a twenty-four year old girl, and I just graduated in China. First of all, I would like to express my
appreciation for those who provided me with the scholarship for the Global Leader Conference. This great
experience was a milestone in my life. I joined in the Work and Travel Program in 2014. This was my first
time travelling to the United States and it was a great shock for my life. The most important thing is that it
opened my mind deeply. But no matter how nice it was, I needed to go back to China. Along with thousands
of other students, I graduated, and faced the life challenges of financial pressure and more. While holding a
huge dream and my own ‘career aim,’ I faced the reality of my life and I felt strongly depressed and overwhelmed.

I received the invitation from Greenheart in 2016 to return to the U.S. and join in the Greenheart Global Leaders Conference.
I was greatly interested in it, but at the same time, I felt so ashamed that I strayed so far from my dream and aim
of life that I had envisioned for myself in 2014. I doubted myself and asked, “Is it possible for me
to be a leader anymore?”

I am thankful for the conference because it reminded me of my dream, my career ambitions and the truth of life.
It also encouraged me to go on adventures and takes risks. Fortunately, a small girl like me made it work and
took a risk. She crossed the ocean, landing on the other side of the world. She met many leaders who taught her
that a solution could be created for even the toughest of social issues. Nothing is negative if you would like to
take action. Also, they taught her that everyone has the power to change the world.

I am still not the greatest of leaders, and I haven’t quite developed a project that will change the world, but I am
working hard on it. I am going to go back to my university to deliver a presentation to encourage more students
who are facing similar situations as me. I’ll try to gather more from them about how to contribute to our community.
Hopefully, we can work hard on it. Finally, I am participating in the trainee program in the U.S. and am going back
to take risks. I believe I will be a stronger leader in the future.

Thank you, again, to all those who focus on the younger generation. Best wishes for you and your family.
May you have a peaceful and healthy life.

Sincerely,

Li Huixin
