The United States announced that borders will reopen for fully vaccinated travelers on November 8, 2021. We understand that participants are anxiously awaiting getting their visa interviews and want to know the most current information on travel requirements.
Here is what we know:
- Only fully vaccinated travelers will be allowed to enter the United States
- Travelers will be required to provide proof of vaccination
-
- If the vaccine requires two shots, you are considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after you take the second dose
- If the vaccine requires one shot, you are considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after you take the dose
- Only those travelers with vaccinations approved by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and/or World Health Organization (WHO) will be allowed to enter the U.S. Below is a list of currently approved vaccines. As information changes often, please check the WHO and CDC websites for the latest information on approved vaccines:
Vaccination Name | Approved by |
Pfizer-BioNTech | CDC, WHO |
Moderna | CDC, WHO |
Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) | CDC, WHO |
AstraZeneca (Covishield) | WHO |
Sinovac | WHO |
Sinopharm BIBP | WHO |
- All vaccinated travelers will be asked to provide COVID-19 negative test results from no more than 3 days before boarding the plane. Get tested no more than 3 days before your flight to the USA departs. Make sure to be tested with a viral test (NAAT or antigen test) to determine if you are currently infected with COVID-19. Also make sure that you receive your results before your flight departs and have documentation of your results to show the airline. Please check for COVID-19 test requirements with your specific airline once your ticket is secured.
-
- If you have a layover on your way to the United States, please check COVID-19 requirements for the transit country, as you will still need to meet ALL travel requirements before being allowed to enter the U.S.
- Keep up to date on COVID testing requirements here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/testing-international-air-travelers.html
- Some U.S. Embassies and Consulates have not yet opened additional interview slots. Please check your local Embassy/Consulate website for visa appointment availability.
We expect additional guidance and information from the CDC before November 8 on what is acceptable proof of vaccination and other travel details. Greenheart will update this page with information as we learn it. Greenheart follows the U.S. government regulations with regards to vaccination, thus recommends that everyone gets vaccinated when they are able to.
Thank you.
