How to Pick Your Start Date to Teach in Thailand This Year

How to Pick Your Start Date to Teach in Thailand This Year

The school year in Thailand is not on the same timeline as Western schools, so some start dates are better to arrive than others. We have start dates every month, so you’re welcome to choose ANY time to come to Thailand, and we can place you, but there are some things to consider when choosing a start date. Keep in mind the Thai school year is as follows:

First Semester: May – September
Break: October
Second Semester: November – February
Break: March and April

Therefore, our biggest two start dates of the year will be right before the Thai semesters begin (April and October). We also only run our Chiang Mai course on our 4 biggest start dates of the year (at the beginning of each semester). Read on for more information about the benefits to each start date we have coming up soon:

February 19, 2018

Deadline to apply: December 19, 2017

Hua Hin training location only

February 19 is a great option if you want a few weeks of downtime before school starts. School will start at the beginning of May, so those who arrive on Feb 19th will complete orientation at the end of Feb (and those taking the TESOL will finish that in the middle of March). From there, you’ll have a month or so of time off before school starts, and many people take this time to see a bit of Thailand and SE Asia (or lay on the beach!). Plenty of time to explore before you settle into your placement from May – September 2018.

April 2, 2018

$400 discount & largest hiring demand of the whole year

Deadline to apply: February 2

Choice between Chiang Mai or Hua Hin if doing the TESOL Course as your training location. All “Placement Only” teachers will do orientation in Hua Hin.

If you can make this start date work in your schedule, this is the best start date to arrive of the entire year.

This will be our biggest spring start date, as completion of the TESOL certification lines up perfectly with the beginning of the Thai school year – so this is when demand is HIGHEST all year for hiring teachers. This date offers the choice between Hua Hin and Chiang Mai and both locations will be chock full of other TESOL trainees from all over the world embarking on their adventure in Thailand with you. Celebrate Songkran (Thai New Years and a huge water fight) during your course with all of the other TESOL trainees! Check out one of our alum, Carolyn’s, video about celebrating Songkran in Hua Hin: Carolyn’s Songkran Video.

We are currently offering a $400 Discount on both April start dates!! How are we able to offer this discount?

1. The Thai school year beings at the beginning of May, so this is when the hiring demand throughout Thailand is the highest.

2. Your arrival in April means that you are arriving when schools need teachers the most.

3. Schools really need teachers at this time and we often have too many placements and not enough teachers!

4. We need more teachers for these dates, to fill this demand, hence the steepest discount we’ve ever offered on this program.

April 30, 2018

$400 discount & largest hiring demand of the whole year

Deadline to apply: March 1

Choice between Chiang Mai or Hua Hin if doing the TESOL Course as your training location. All “Placement Only” teachers will do orientation in Hua Hin.

This is the best option for those who have their TEFL/TESOL certification already, or their teaching license. You will have a one week orientation, and then begin your placement at the beginning of the Thai school year as well which is the point of the year with the largest hiring demand. Your contact will end in September, with the option to stay longer if you want.

May 28, 2018

Deadline to apply: March 28

Hua Hin training location only

This date is a great date for those graduating from college in May. Jump right into an adventure teaching English abroad! Hiring demand is still at it’s peak during the month of May, as schools have just kicked off the school year and still need teachers desperately. Teachers who start their program on this date will finish their contracts at the end of September. From there, you can extend into another semester if you’d like (from Nov-March) or complete your program and travel or go home.

June 11, 2018 – Summer Program only

Deadline to apply: February 15

Hua Hin training location only

This is a start date for our 6 week summer program only. The Summer Program is a short term option for those who cannot commit to a full semester. It’s perfect for teachers who have the summer off and want a meaningful experience during their break. It’s required that teachers have a BA/BS in Education, teaching license, or a TEFL/TESOL of at least 100 hours to participate in this short term program.

Your contract will end on July 27th.

June 25, 2018

Deadline to apply: April 25

Hua Hin training location only

Another great option for graduates in May (and everyone else!). A June start will give you a shorter contract, as you are arriving when school is already in session. We can still place teachers at this time (we wouldn’t offer start dates unless we could) so your contract would be from July (depending on if you do the TESOL or not) until the end of September – around 2 months.
