Mihaela Gadirca is a Work and Travel participant from Moldova, working at Oak Street Beach Food+Drink and Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, IL. In her sixth blog post, she shares how she enjoys her time working in the Second City.
Chicago was on my “must visit” list for a long time. As it turned out, Chicago would end up hosting me for more than 3 months. I’ve been here for 2 months now and I am still discovering the beauties of the city. It might sound weird but I am amazed by the public transportation system in Chicago. I am only here temporarily, so I opted for this mode of transportation. I even have an application on my phone that tells you the exact time when the bus will arrive.
All of my days start with a long but pleasant ride. My stop is always Michigan Avenue. Before I start my walk through the city, I need a boost of energy, which I recently discovered is shopping. I like to spend some time at Lincoln Park and Lincoln Park Zoo, even if my time there is limited because the zoo closes at 6 PM. I think it is a small piece of heaven.
Next, we move forward to Grant Park which hosts a lot of music, dance, and food festivals. Lucky for me, I’ve had the opportunity to attend some of them. This is how I absorb energy from the city!
