The 2016 Global Youth Travel Awards were presented at this year’s World Youth and Student Travel Conference (WYSTC), where Greenheart Travel and Rescue Paws were the winners of the “Outstanding Volunteer Project” category! Greenheart Travel and Rescue Paws have been international partners since 2014, with Greenheart working to support the rescue center by sending volunteers to their animal rescue center in Thailand to contribute time and effort into the ongoing work of running the center. Volunteers work to improve the quality of life for these dogs by performing over 300 sterilizations and nearly 600 vaccinations each year.
This year’s conference was held in Belgrade, Serbia and closed with the Global Youth Travel Awards on Friday evening. Greenheart’s VP of International Exchange attended the conference and was able to accept the award on behalf of Rescue Paws. It was exciting to have even been shortlisted for the award, so of course winning was a wonderful surprise! Pictured below is Greenheart’s Vice President Daniel Ebert along with the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US Department of State and Department of State staff posing with the award.
We hope that this award will help to bring more recognition and support for Rescue Paws and the incredible work that they do. Rescue Paws (and XPlore Asia more generally) are one of our most valued and important NGO relationships, and we work closely together to offer top-tier programs and volunteer projects. Rescue Paws was also awarded the Greenheart Travel Give Back Award earlier this year, which has allowed the organization to purchase more kennels and create a recreational area and adoption zone for the area dogs and puppies. We are very proud of our partnership with this organization and all that they do for abandoned, mistreated and stray animals in Thailand.
