Greenheart Honors Environmental and Social Justice Visionary Lynne Twist
“The unadulterated love of one person can nullify the hatred of millions”
Our first ever Greenheart Global Leader Honoree, Lynne Twist, shared this quote with our community last month at the Greenheart Gala: Igniting Change. As a seasoned fundraiser and social justice champion, Lynne brings philanthropy back to its root meaning: “love of humans.” She describes the work of Greenheart as participating in this unadulterated love by creating opportunities for people to connect with each other, engage, and eventually come to love one another, despite their apparent differences. It is an incredible honor to have such a remarkable, impactful, and world-renown honoree deliver kind words about the work of Greenheart in the larger society.
Lynne describes her life as “committed”; meaning that she lives not for her individual desires, but for her commitments to others. She has worked alongside prominent figures such as Mother Theresa, the Dalai Lama, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Her many accomplishments and involvements bring light to her commitment to the world outside of herself. She has contributed as a keynote speaker for the United Nations Beijing Women’s Conference and the Nobel Women’s Conference on Sexual Violence. Ms. Twist has fought tirelessly for social justice by serving as the Chief Fundraising Officer for The Hunger Project. Later, Lynne and her husband would start the Pachamama Alliance, a social profit (nonprofit) that aims to empower indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest to protect their land and culture.
The Pachamama Alliance’s vision and mission webpage quotes Albert Einstein saying: “I think the most important decision we make is whether we believe we live in a friendly or hostile universe.” Through her life’s work, Ms. Twist has been reimagining our world as the former: friendly. She has written the book The Soul of Money: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life, which explains how we can be liberated from ourselves by utilizing money for a committed life, instead of one in which the focus of attention is ourselves. She has also contributed book chapters to over 10 books, and given various talks as a keynote speaker, tirelessly fighting to promote her vision of a friendly, peaceful and loving world.
Greenheart International is honored to have developed a strong relationship with Lynne and The Pachamama Alliance. We believe that in combining our efforts we will only strengthen our ability to create a more peaceful and sustainable world.
