Greenheart Club International Announces 2nd Collective Grant Winner!
By Leslie Dion, Director of Recreation at the Tapply-Thompson Community Center
Each time the Greenheart Club International community collectively logs 10,000 hours of volunteer service we ask our members to nominate and vote on an organization to receive a one-time donation of $1,000 to celebrate our collective impact. We received many nominations of wonderful organizations all around the world and our membership turned out to vote! We are excited to award the Tapply-Thompson Community Center (TTCC) our second Greenheart Club International Collective Grant! Below, Leslie Dion, the Director of Recreation at the TTCC, shares more about her wonderful organization and how they will benefit from the Collective Grant.
First we would like to thank Barbara Rosendahl for nominating the Tapply-Thompson Community Center (TTCC) to be a part of the Greenheart Club International Collective Grant nominees. A heartfelt thank you to Greenheart International for the $1,000 donation that will have such a positive impact on the youth we serve in this rural New Hampshire community.
It has been a great pleasure for us to include our International students in our volunteer programs. Our current student, Juliya, has been a valued member of our team of teen volunteers. She has spent countless hours with us working with the children in our After School program, helping with events and baking delicious treats for our Teen program. This is such a win-win experience for all of us!
Our Community Center has been in existence since 1946. We have a rich history that began with the dream of a local Pastor, A.B. Thompson and became a reality with the first Director, “Wink” Tapply. Our building was built in 1890 and housed the Methodist Church for many years. In 1946 the building was converted to a non-profit recreation center with the hiring of a full time Director. Building on the philosophy that, “If one adult life is influenced for the good, it is money well spent,” both “Wink” & A.B. garnered the support to make their dream sustainable.
The TTCC has spent the past 70 years making a positive difference in the lives of the youth and adults in the Newfound Lake Region of New Hampshire. The program is designed to help youth develop life skills, spirituality, knowledge and attitudes that will enable them to grow into productive and contributing adults.
The Center has two full-time staff and many part-time program staff but is primarily volunteer driven. We have hundreds of volunteers that work in our youth sports programs, summer camps, do fundraising and staff special events. It is truly a community effort that has provided generations with a quality recreational program.
It is the firm belief of the Recreation Advisory Council that no child ever be denied access to a program due to financial constraints. A scholarship program has been established with that in mind and in 2014 we provided over $25,000 in scholarships for sports, after school and summer camp programs to the youth in our eight communities.
As a non-profit we are very grateful for the generosity of many organizations that donate each year and the wonderful community support we receive. The donation from Greenheart Club International will be used to fund our scholarship program where it will have the most direct benefit to our local youth. On behalf of the Youth, Staff & Board we thank you for this generous donation!
